Modern Art in Russia: New Tretyakov Gallery, Muzeon Park & Gorky Park

Our tour starts in one of the loveliest parks of Moscow – Muzeon Arts Park. It is a unique museum of sculptures in the open air. Here fallen monuments to Soviet leaders including sculptures to Lenin, Stalin and Dzerzhinsky once situated in the central squares of Russian cities and worshipped by people, now stand without pedestals side by side with avant-guardists’ works that were prohibited by those leaders in the USSR. You will walk between more than 1000 sculptures by the most famous Russian sculptors.

You will continue the tour in the national treasury of Russian fine art and one of the largest museums in the world – the Tretyakov Gallery. The New Tretyakov is the premier venue for 20^th century Russian art. Our charming guide will tell you about the most popular artistic movements in the USSR from the masters of the Russian avant-garde (Mikhail Larionov, Natalya Goncharova, Kasimir Malevich and Vassily Kandinsky) to contemporary art.

You will finish your tour in the famous Gorky Park which is only a few steps away from from the gallery. Gorky Park is perfect to escape the chaos of Moscow. It’s a prime hangout for Muscovites. Gorky Park is in many ways less a park in the traditional sense of the word and more a recreation ground for both young and old alike. After our guide has shown you around, you can choose between the numerous facilities of the park, where you can rent a bicycle, play tennis or badminton, laze in the sun on white sand, dance salsa or take a boat trip along the Moscow river!
