Dive into the past and explore the heritage of the former capital of the USSR!
The Communist era left traces all over Moscow. Wherever you go, in every street of the former capital of the Soviet Union you will be struck by its remnants and the stories behind them.
This tour consists of three main parts. First, during a 2-hour walking tour, our guide will recreate the vivid atmosphere of the USSR. You will find out more about the life of an average Muscovite of that time, get a deeper understanding of the politics of the Soviet leaders, learn about the trial process in case you were accused of contra-revolutionary deeds and imagine what life might have been like in a Gulag labor camp while discovering their secret prisons and the execution houses of the KGB along the way.
In the second part of the excursion, you will explore the Moscow metro and hear about the reasons why it became a living museum instead of just being used as a transportation system. The world-renowned frescoes, sculptures, chandeliers, and stained glass mosaics are jaw-dropping and create an atmosphere of extravagance underground. It is not only a means of transport but an art gallery and an “encyclopedia of Soviet history” at the same time.
At the end of the tour, you will head to VDNKh’s Exhibition of Achievements of the National Economy. This exhibition used to be like a fairytale world for Soviet people since one could find there all types of delicious food, the finest fabrics, and brand new machines. You will learn many interesting facts about the “Soviet Versailles” and admire fantastic and diverse pavilions representing the fifteen Soviet republics, decorated with authentic vases, mosaics, and murals.
At the end of the day, we will stop by a unique museum of Soviet arcade machines and dive into a happy Soviet childhood for a short while playing 15 different games.
